Support measures to improve the living conditions and future prospects of single African mothers and their children: AWO project “Best Mom”
The "Best Mom" project is aimed at single mothers from West Africa and their children who are currently living in refugee accommodations. The project provides the mothers with support to improve their living conditions and future prospects.
The project support measures aim to enable women to lead independent and self-determined lives and to provide for a good future for their children.
The project will establish support services to clarify and resolve individual needs and problems. However, its primary task lies in imparting and reinforcing parenting skills.
In addition to the support and advisory measures provided by the project staff, a network of relevant stakeholders from various authorities, advice centers, and volunteers from migrant organizations is being established as supporters.
The staff members advise the women directly in the transitional housing facilities in various districts of Bremen
The women should have the opportunity to resolve their problems on site and in direct conversation – this includes issues of status and health as well as questions about language acquisition, career orientation or childcare/holiday programs.
Individual counselling and support, topic-specific group work with the young mothers, work in mother-child groups and networking with various supporting actors are the measures used to achieve the project goals.
The overall aim of the "Best-Mom" project is to create a reliable aid, advice and support service in which single African mothers, in cooperation with the project team, volunteers and cooperation partners, receive advice, experience help and are empowered to continue supporting each other sustainably in self-organized groups.
The project is funded by Aktion Mensch.
