Do you feel pressured, harassed, or threatened?
Assaults, harassment, discrimination and threats have no place here!
Do you know MIKA? is a prevention project that, on the one hand, raises awareness of sexual assaults and discriminatory behavior in public spaces, and on the other hand, supports affected people, regardless of their gender identity, in getting discreet and direct help in such situations.
How does MIKA work?
MIKA is a code that people in participating Bremen pubs, bars, discotheques, as well as in the Weser Stadium and at public events can use to contact staff if they feel threatened, harassed or bothered.
People learn about the code through posters and stickers that are placed not only in the toilet area, but also in other visible locations.
When asked, "Do you know MIKA?", the staff immediately knows. There's no need for lengthy explanations or justifications.
The staff provides assistance by respecting the wishes of the person affected. For example, a taxi can be ordered, a safe place offered if possible, a trusted person (friend, partner, etc.) can be contacted, or the police can be contacted if requested.
What is special about MIKA?
For those affected, the code MIKA can lower the shame and inhibition threshold and prevent them from having to justify their request for support.
They also don't have to search for words or worry about not being believed or not being able to make themselves understood. The goal is for the patrons of the establishments to know: "I don't have to use the code, but I can, and I'm sure I'll get help."
Of course, guests can also ask for help directly without using the code.
Is MIKA already available at your venue? Why not ask around?
You're at your favorite location and you've noticed that MIKA hasn't arrived there yet?! Then simply ask the staff and draw their attention to the project.
They can contact us directly so that we can implement the project together with them at the location.

Where does MIKA come from? – The background of the project
MIKA is a prevention measure against sexualized violence that originated in England and was developed and implemented by the local councilor Hayley Child of Lincolnshire.
In England, however, the project is called "Ask for Angela" and is based on the English word "Angel" in the sense of a guardian angel.
