For children aged 3 to 14 years
Ups and downs in development are a normal part of growing up. This is not always a sign of mental illness.
However, children can develop a wide range of symptoms when under persistent stress, and you as parents may feel unsettled by your child's behavior. Take your questions, difficulties, and concerns seriously. Early intervention can prevent initial signs of distress from developing into mental health issues.
Reasons for therapy
It can be helpful to seek psychotherapeutic advice if your child
- withdraws, appears depressed or strongly introverted.
- is inattentive and restless at school.
- no longer wants to go to school.
- developed inexplicable fears.
- often becomes aggressive and attacks others.
- has told or experienced something disturbing.
- cannot fall asleep in the evening or wakes up often at night, has nightmares.
- exhibits recurring actions, thoughts, or tics.
- frequently complains of headaches, stomach aches or nausea.
- urinates or defecates.
- exhibits unusual eating behavior.
- feels overwhelmed by family burdens.
The therapy
In analytical and psychodynamic psychotherapy, we assume that underlying psychological conflicts lie behind symptoms of illness and behavioral problems. During treatment, you and your child will be supported in expressing, understanding, and resolving these psychological conflicts. An individualized therapy plan will be developed for this purpose. Children can express their worries, wishes, and feelings in a child-friendly and age-appropriate way, and develop new solutions to problems, through free play or creative activities (clay, drawing, etc.) in their interaction with the therapist.
