As a nursing professional with a foreign qualification, you need proof of your oral and written German language skills. Only then can you have your profession recognized and practice in Germany. On behalf of the State of Bremen, we administer the B2 level German language proficiency exam for nursing. Successful completion of the B2 level German language proficiency exam is an important component of professional recognition – enabling you to work in your profession in the future!

The scenario-based individual examination consists of two oral and one written examination part.
Process:
- Oral part/ Part 1: Conversation between the nurse and a patient (duration 20 minutes)
- Oral part/ Part 2: Discussion between the nurse and another nurse/person from another healthcare profession, e.g., doctor (duration 20 minutes)
- Written part: Creating a document typical for nursing (duration 20 minutes)
Based on the assessment criteria, the examination board (a German as a Second Language teacher and a specialist from the field of nursing/medicine) determines the score (a maximum of 30 points per exam section, for a total maximum of 90 points). You will be informed of the exam results within two weeks.
If you fail the exam, you can retake it in its entirety as many times as you like. Retaking individual parts of the exam is not possible. The fee must be paid for each exam. Upon passing the exam, you will receive an in-house certificate for the B2 level German language proficiency exam in nursing.
To prepare for the exam, you can participate in an online introduction to the specialist language exam for nursing B2 (6 teaching units).
