"Being parents" is a shared dream for many couples. At the same time, the growth of the family also changes their lives as they know them. The couple's relationship is rarely exempt from this. Initially, partners often don't even notice the impact the new family situation has on their partnership, as both are more focused on the newborn and the family as a whole for a certain period of time. Alongside all the wonderful new experiences, this can demand a lot of strength and energy from parents. If the family already includes (adult) children or teenagers with disabilities, or if a child with a disability is expected, additional challenges and burdens can arise for couples.

Especially now, regular communication about ideas regarding family life, partnership, and time for oneself is becoming increasingly important.
