How can I apply for social-pedagogical family support?

Do you, as a family or as a single parent, need support to manage your daily family life? Then social-pedagogical family support may be an option for you. Social-pedagogical family support is a form of child welfare assistance provided by the youth welfare office.

The responsible authority is the Office for Social Services (AfSD). Within the city districts, the social service centers are responsible. There are six social service centers in the city of Bremen, one in each district, and even two locations in Gröpelingen. The social service for young people is located within these centers.

What is the procedure?

Socially oriented family support takes place directly in the family's home. The family receives assistance with everyday matters and therapeutic processing of problematic situations. For this purpose, a social work professional visits the family regularly for several hours each week.

The support provided is tailored to the family's specific daily life. Socially oriented family support is particularly helpful for single parents who are under considerable strain managing everyday family life. Individual goals are developed with the family, taking into account the resources and abilities of each family member.

Possible goals include:

  • Restoration and strengthening of parenting skills
  • Uncovering the strengths and abilities of individual family members
  • Support with coping with everyday life
  • Strengthening self-esteem
  • Strengthening conflict resolution skills
  • Improvement of relationships between each other

What are the requirements?

Socially oriented family support must help the affected children.

Socially oriented family support services can help you with these problems:

  • They have problems organizing their daily lives.
  • They need support in dealing with government offices, schools, and doctors.
  • They are having difficulties providing for and raising their children.

An important prerequisite for the success of the performance is your willingness to accept help and to cooperate in changes.
