The State Institute for Schools has the task of accompanying schools in the state of Bremen in their work and supporting their development.
As a center of expertise, the LIS provides professional, educational and psychological services and support for all those responsible for the education and upbringing of pupils in primary schools, secondary schools (grades 5-12) and vocational schools.
The tasks of the LIS include, in particular:
- the training of trainee teachers,
- the qualification of teachers, functionaries and school principals as well as other pedagogical staff in schools,
- the promotion and support of schools in shaping processes of school and lesson development,
- the development of framework guidelines and quality assurance instruments for schools and teaching,
- the provision of media and materials for the design of school teaching and learning processes,
- the advice of the Senator for Children and Education.
To fulfill its tasks, the LIS cooperates with extracurricular partners, multipliers, and Bremen-based and supra-regional institutions. Beyond its function as a state institute, the LIS also performs municipal tasks for the city of Bremen.
