Early intervention

Early intervention services receive special attention in family education – because this is where education for young families begins. For a good overview, you will find contacts, specialist events and contact points in Bremen here, as well as useful materials and information such as the "Welcome to the Family" folder.

  • Early intervention services support expectant parents and families with children up to three years old. The aim is to empower children from an early age and support families in their daily lives. Participation in these services is voluntary, easily accessible, and preventative.

  • Early intervention services are generally aimed at all families with young children. They are particularly important for families in difficult life situations, for example, those experiencing poverty, mental health problems, or a lack of social support.

  • Professionals from daycare centers, schools, counseling services, healthcare, or social work can also identify important indicators of support needs. Early intervention programs depend on good collaboration and making suitable services available to families at an early stage.

  • Early intervention services can provide relief for families who appear under significant stress, are unsure how to care for their child, or have little support in their daily lives. Overwhelm, exhaustion, or social isolation can also be indicators.

  • Early intervention services are voluntary support programs that intervene as early as possible, before crises develop. Child protection measures are implemented when a child's well-being is at risk. Both areas work closely together but have different responsibilities.

  • In Bremen, there is the State Coordination Office for Early Childhood Intervention. It promotes projects financed by the Federal Foundation for Early Childhood Intervention, takes care of the further development and quality improvement of early childhood intervention services at the state level, is responsible for cooperation at the federal level, and for public relations work on early childhood intervention topics.
