The Bremen Chances Parliament is a non-profit association in which citizens of Bremen and Bremerhaven are committed to helping people in need in our federal state.
The goal of Chancen-Parlament Bremen e.V. is to create opportunities and prospects in our society for people affected by or at risk of poverty. The association focuses on the individual with their abilities and potential. It aims to reach people who want to lift themselves out of their precarious situation by creating opportunities together, on equal terms.
More than a quarter of adults in Bremen have less than 60 percent of the national average monthly net income at their disposal, and over 40 percent of children and young people live in households at risk of poverty – more than in any other federal state, and there is no end to this trend in sight.
What does the Parliament of Opportunities do?
The Bremen Chances Parliament solicits, collects and awards donations to individuals, groups and initiatives as well as non-profit organizations in the state of Bremen.
As members of parliament, donors and association members advise and decide at parliamentary sessions which of the proposed projects and initiatives should be supported in a meaningful and targeted manner to enable self-help, personal initiatives, responsibility, participation and inclusion – independently, democratically and for the common good.
How does the Parliament of Opportunities work?
The Bremen Opportunities Parliament is convened by the association's board at least twice a year. Applications for funding can be submitted informally in writing until the published application deadline. The board reviews the applications based on the association's funding criteria and makes its recommendations.
The reviewed applications are presented by the applicants at parliamentary sessions; the Parliament of Opportunities deliberates and decides on the funding by majority vote. The approved projects are supported by parliamentary mentors.
