kom.fort e. V. is a non-profit association providing advice on barrier-free building and living
Accessible building – societal consensus or demographic necessity? Building for a marginalized group or building for everyone? Accessibility facilitates reachability, usability, and orientation with all senses. This means greater comfort and functionality for everyone.
The goal is to enable people to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible and to remove barriers that prevent this. To promote the participation of people with disabilities, accessibility in public spaces should become the norm.
With our services, we promote accessible building and thus contribute to the equality of elderly and disabled people in our society. Our services are aimed at all interested citizens as well as a broad professional audience.
kom.fort is supported by the Senator for Labour, Social Affairs, Youth and Integration and the Senator for Climate Protection, Environment, Mobility, Urban Development and Housing and is the regional contact point of the Federal Working Group on Housing Adaptation for the Northwest.
We rely on your support. Become a full member or a supporting member with your institution in our association, make a one-time donation, or ask us about other ways to support us.

Housing advice
kom.fort advises all Bremen residents on age-appropriate and barrier-free design of their apartment and living environment
- We provide information and advice to you and your relatives about self-determined living in old age and in case of disability.
- We support you in adapting your apartment and living environment to your individual housing needs. We discuss your current housing problems with you on-site and work out solutions together.
- We can advise you on all planning and construction-related questions, costs and financing options, social services and support offers, as well as accessible housing options in Bremen.
- We connect you with competent partners in the fields of planning, construction and crafts, and, if needed, also with services and other social offerings in the areas of care and support.
- We see ourselves as an interface between experts and consumers and support you in realizing your wishes.
Housing advice is useful and helpful in acute problem situations, but preventive measures also create security and comfort in one's own home.
Problems can arise in a small rented apartment just as easily as in a condominium or a single-family home. The distinctive Bremen house type, the "Altbremer Haus," often presents its residents with particular challenges. We offer a house check that provides insights into the potential and limitations of adaptations.
The consultation is neutral and independent and takes place within the city limits of Bremen.
Home modifications
Home modifications often make it possible, with simple means, to adapt the home to the changed needs in old age and/or in case of a disability, thereby maintaining quality of life and independence.
Home modifications create safety, provide greater freedom of movement when needed, and improve the quality of living. They ensure comfort and enable care and support within one's own home.
