Securing child day care
The Senator for Children and Education (SKB) and the independent organization PiB – Pflegekinder in Bremen gGmbH (PiB) are jointly setting a new course for the future of child day care in Bremen. After almost 25 years of successful collaboration, the existing cooperation agreement could not be continued in its current form for legal reasons. This includes, among other things, tasks that are inherently sovereign and must be transferred back to the authority.
"Fresh from field to plate" – new BioStadt Bremen Pixi book
This lovingly designed book was developed in collaboration with Carlsen Verlag specifically for children aged approximately 1 to 5 years. It conveys important topics such as the origin of food, seasonality, and sustainability in a clear and child-friendly way, thus making a valuable contribution to nutrition education.
Youth welfare offices report 10% more cases of child endangerment in 2025
The number of child welfare cases has risen to a new record high for the fourth consecutive year: In 2025, youth welfare offices in Germany identified approximately 79,800 children or young people as being at risk of neglect, psychological, physical, or sexual abuse. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), this represents an increase of 10%, or around 7,000 cases, compared to 2024.

A competitive situation over a property has turned into a partnership with numerous winners: PiB – Pflegekinder in Bremen and the traveling werkschule schollen (rws) have moved into their new offices in Alte Hafenstraße in Vegesack and are thus pooling their resources in Bremen-Vegesack.

Better protect and empower children and young people in the digital world
The expert commission "Child and Youth Protection in the Digital World" has submitted its recommendations to Federal Minister of Education and Family Affairs Karin Prien. The recommendations outline ways in which the protection, empowerment, and participation of children and young people can be achieved in the digital world. They form the basis for the Federal Government's overall strategy for child and youth protection in the digital world, as agreed upon in the coalition agreement.
The Bremen School Museum now belongs to the State Institute for Schools (LIS)
The Bremen School Museum has been part of the State Institute for Schools (LIS) since January 2026. To mark the conclusion of the onboarding process, the LIS officially welcomed the museum in a ceremony on June 23. At the same time, the sponsoring association, Bremen School Museum e.V., was formally thanked for its service and its commitment to the museum's development over the past 16 years.
