Many of the children fleeing to Germany are severely traumatized. They suffer from nightmares, difficulty concentrating, or headaches and stomach aches. Parents and other caregivers also often struggle to process their experiences and adjust to their new circumstances. Children can be very resilient. To maintain this resilience, it is crucial that they feel safe and ideally receive psychosocial support. Professionals and volunteers are frequently the first point of contact and can play a vital role in providing relief and stabilization. This training
aims to strengthen the role of professionals and volunteers and equip them with the skills to work with psychologically distressed and traumatized children. Furthermore, it will focus on developing self-care strategies to prevent potential burnout. To this end, a two-day training course on the psychosocial support of refugee children and families has been developed.
