Providing trauma-sensitive support – understanding children, giving them security, enabling their development.
Early childhood education can be negatively impacted by severely stressful life events, family crises, neglect, experiences of displacement and migration, violence, or other traumatic events. Early childhood professionals face the challenge of understanding behaviors, providing appropriate support to children with traumatic experiences, and fostering stable, secure relationships. A trauma-informed approach contributes to promoting the participation, development, and well-being of all children. In this training, we will explore the fundamentals of trauma-informed pedagogy, develop a shared understanding of causes, consequences, and manifestations of trauma, and explore intervention options and their limitations. As always at PBW, this is achieved through a close integration of theory and practice, by analyzing and discussing specific cases and developing practical strategies.

Requirements for participation:
You can participate in the training course…
- if you work as an educational professional in a daycare center, nursery or childminding service with children aged 0 to 6 years.
You have the option of booking this training course as educational leave. The course is recognized under the Bremen Educational Leave Act of December 18, 1974 (Bremen Law Gazette, p. 348 – as amended). To take educational leave in Bremen, you can proceed as follows:
- You apply for educational leave from your employer for this training course.
- On our registration form, please indicate that you are booking this training course as educational leave and have applied for it with your employer. You will then receive a registration confirmation from us specifying the educational leave to submit to your employer.
- Your employer will approve your educational leave.
- After the training event, you will receive a certificate of participation, which you can present to your employer as proof.

On the first two days of the training course, we will address the following topics:
- What is trauma?
- What happens in the brain?
- Trauma-informed pedagogical approach
- Attachment trauma
- Trauma through flight and migration
- Intergenerational transmission of trauma
- Trauma consequences in children
- Recognizing dissociations and flashbacks
- Possible courses of action
- The daycare center as a safe place
After a period of time, the training group meets again for the third day of the seminar, reflecting on interventions tested in the meantime and analyzing further concrete situations and cases from practice.
