Since 2017, particularly vulnerable victims of sexual and violent crimes, such as children and adolescents, have had the right to be assigned a psychosocial support person during legal proceedings. In the future, this support will be extended to other areas of offenses, such as domestic violence.

The Institute for Police and Security Research (IPoS) at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration (HfÖV) in Bremen offers a six-month advanced training program to obtain the legally required qualification. The aim is to enable participants to provide professional victim support in criminal proceedings and the affected areas of life, and to ensure they can interact confidently with actors within the legal system.

The certified training course “Psychosocial Process Support” serves to impart interdisciplinary knowledge in 8 modules in the following areas:

  • Right
  • psychology
  • Psychotraumatology
  • Victimology
  • criminology
  • Theory and practice of psychosocial process support
  • Methodological/social skills
  • Critical examination of one's own role in the criminal proceedings

Admission requirements:

  • University degree in social pedagogy, social work, education, psychology or completed vocational training
  • 2 years of practical work experience

Further training qualification:
State-recognized certificate “Psychosocial Process Support” with recognition by the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the Ministry of Justice
of Lower Saxony and other ministries of justice.

Arrival:
The course includes both in-person and online components. In-person sessions take place at the
HfÖV (University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration), Doventorscontrescarpe 172c, 28195 Bremen. The venue is approximately a 5-minute tram ride from the main train station (Hauptbahnhof) on
tram line 10. A parking garage is located nearby.

Cost: €2600 including seminar materials and conference drinks during the in-person days.
