Professional handling of sexuality in child and youth welfare: gaining confidence, developing an attitude and developing practical guidelines for everyday work.

Sexuality is a central theme in the work with children and young people – often visible, sometimes indirect, but almost always present. Questions about relationships, clothing, body awareness and sensations, as well as dealing with intimacy and personal boundaries, are part of everyday educational practice. Nevertheless, professional approaches to these topics are frequently characterized by uncertainty, often based on intuition, or taboo due to shame and feeling overwhelmed.

But what does professional competence mean when dealing with sexuality in child and youth welfare services? What legal frameworks must be observed? And how can professionals remain confident, reflective, and capable of acting effectively?

In my workshops and training courses, I support professionals in developing a clear professional stance and creating concrete, practical courses of action. The goal is to gain confidence in dealing with sexuality-related topics and to integrate this knowledge competently, sensitively, and in a legally sound manner into their work with children, young people, and their environment.
