The Senator for Children and Education (SKB) and the independent organization PiB – Pflegekinder in Bremen gGmbH (PiB) are jointly setting a new course for the future of child day care in Bremen. After almost 25 years of successful collaboration, the existing cooperation agreement could not be continued in its current form for legal reasons. This includes, among other things, tasks that are inherently sovereign and must be transferred back to the authority.
Following a joint analysis of the necessary adjustments and current developments in the field, SKB and PiB have unanimously decided not only to transfer sovereign tasks back to the Senate, but also to reorganize the professional tasks that constitute the core of their work under the umbrella of the municipal childcare provider KiTa Bremen. Initially, the processing of payments for childminders and the assessment of their suitability will be gradually transferred to the Senate authority by the end of 2027.
From August 1st: KiTa Bremen will take on specialist tasks as a contact person for parents and childminders
From August 1, 2028, KiTa Bremen will assume full responsibility for childcare services and will thus become the point of contact for parents and the remaining independent childminders. This solution ensures the continued provision of childcare services fully and legally under municipal jurisdiction. The high quality standards and the development of early childhood education programs initiated by PiB will be maintained in the future. By taking over these responsibilities, KiTa Bremen will have the opportunity to further develop its existing childcare services, potentially generating additional professional impetus.
PiB will continue its work as an experienced specialist service in foster care, commissioned by the Senator for Labor, Social Affairs, Youth and Integration, in its current form. The Senator for Children and Education already thanks the independent organization PiB for its many years of reliable and dedicated cooperation in the interest of children, families and childminders in Bremen.
