Consulting, empowerment and public relations by ADA

As in other areas of life, there are many different forms of discrimination in the workplace – for example,

  • when a young woman is rejected for a position as a medical assistant because of her headscarf
  • when a deaf bank employee is denied promotion to a better-paid management position for years without any explanation
  • when a scientist from abroad is constantly corrected in his German pronunciation by his colleague
  • when a kitchen helper with a mild disability is constantly harassed with sexual jokes by the head waiter and touched in his intimate area against his will
  • when a domestic worker is cheated out of large parts of her wages due to a lack of residence or work papers, or when, after a conflict, an employee with dark skin loses his job because his confident manner is interpreted by management as aggressive behavior

The ADA team therefore advises people who experience discrimination in their workplace or when searching for employment or training. Further information about the various counselling options and how our counselling works can be found under the "Counselling" section on the ADA website.

ADA also regularly engages with the Bremen public through evening events and conferences. In doing so, ADA works closely not only with trade unions as strategic partners, but also with works councils, staff councils, specialist advisory centers, and other organizations active in the field of anti-discrimination.
