Bremen is the birthplace of the ADFC. The General German Bicycle Club was founded here in 1979.
On April 18, 1979, traffic consultant Jan Tebbe and 17 other cycling enthusiasts founded the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) in a very informal setting in his living room in Bremen. Their primary goal was to create a political counterweight to the powerful automotive lobby groups.
On October 26, 1979, the ADFC Federal Association was entered into the Bremen Register of Associations.
In June 1980, the ADFC (General German Bicycle Club) was registered as an advocacy group with the German Bundestag (Federal Parliament). In 1981, the Bremen bicycle station, the first of its kind in Germany, was founded. The ADFC's operation of a bicycle station with a bicycle parking garage and workshop is unique.
- As a transport club, we advocate for the interests of cyclists and offer our members a comprehensive service related to cycling.
- At the political level, we consistently advocate for the promotion of cycling. In doing so, we collaborate with all associations, organizations, and institutions that are committed to greater safety and environmental protection in transportation.
- As climate activists, we believe that sustainable mobility must finally be taken seriously and promoted sustainably.
- We are also available as a service provider to assist and support companies and organizations that want to become more bicycle-friendly, using our expertise.
- For the cycling community in Bremen, we offer regular meeting points and events, as well as guided bike tours through the surrounding area.
