More help for homeless women in Bremen
LieLa eV is committed to establishing a safe space in Bremen to support homeless and precariously housed women in their everyday challenges.
LieLa eV consists of a diverse team of approximately 20 active members, primarily from Bremen, representing various professions and generations. As a non-profit organization, its goal is to help homeless and precariously housed women.
A safe place, a space to breathe
The primary goal of Lie.La eV is to create a safe and discrimination-free space: the LieLa Point. This will be implemented as a day and evening drop-in center. Homeless women live in a constant state of fear, as they face the ongoing threat of (sexualized) violence. This safe space will be provided through a day drop-in center. Lie.La eV will be the sponsoring organization for the LieLa Point day drop-in center.
We want to create a safe space that offers room to breathe. The LieLa Point is planned as an open, anonymous drop-in center. It should be a place where women can simply be themselves, unconditionally. Only those who are not afraid can find peace and consider their next steps. To support this, we want to create support structures
.
- Meeting basic needs (e.g. food, drink, clothing, menstrual and hygiene products)
- Opportunities to take independent steps (e.g., computer, Wi-Fi, electricity, postal address, lockers)
- Social work counselling on request and on a voluntary basis by qualified professionals
- Referral to specialist facilities in Bremen (e.g. drug counselling, therapeutic services).
Low-threshold assistance
The support should be easily accessible and as unconditional as possible. A key focus is on voluntary cooperation. Those who seek help voluntarily are also more likely to work on their own development. The LieLa Point is not about planning support over the heads of those affected. Instead, the goal is to create honest and effective services that are accessed by the individuals themselves. This is all the more crucial because people who have frequently experienced abusive behavior need a particular sensitivity to their right to self-determination.
The LieLa point in the center
The LieLa point should be located near the city center to be perceived as a truly open and easily accessible drop-in center. Financial hardship is often accompanied by significant mobility limitations, for example, because train tickets are too expensive. Additionally, we want to be present in the target group's everyday lives and raise awareness of available support services. To this end, we plan to visit typical gathering places of those affected whenever possible. This will demonstrate to the women that they are visible within our social system and that practical help is available. This is all the more important because many homeless people have lost faith in our support system.
