The term "star child" refers to children who die before, during, or shortly after birth. Medically, a miscarriage is defined as the birth of a child without any signs of life and weighing less than 500 grams. A stillbirth is defined as the birth of a child without any signs of life and weighing at least 500 grams.

Out of our own experience of loss, we founded the self-help group Sterneneltern Achim (Star Parents Achim) in 2014. Since then, our commitment and our team have grown.

What we do

Losing a loved one often means carrying immense pain. Through our support group, we want to help bereaved parents cope with their grief.
Relatives and friends of bereaved parents are also warmly welcome, as they often don't know how to support them.
Raising awareness in hospitals and other relevant institutions is also very important to us.

We are working to raise awareness about the topic of stillborn children and we provide information about stillborn children in our FAQ.

Meet

Our meetings take place regularly. Registration is not required. The self-help group meets every first Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. The support group for relatives meets every second Wednesday of odd-numbered months at 6:30 p.m. The meeting place is our association's premises at Pavillonstraße 1 in Achim.

For clinics

The birth of a child is a special moment. The birth of a stillborn child is no less special.

By treating both parents AND child with consideration, hospitals can help make this exceptional situation a more bearable experience for everyone involved.

We have created a booklet and developed a presentation to provide hospital staff with tips and information on supporting bereaved parents and their children.
The presentation is suitable for doctors, midwives, nurses, and medical assistants. The booklet includes a checklist that can be copied and added to the patient's file for easy reference, streamlining workflows.
You can request information about the presentation for hospital staff and the booklet.
