Working with people with physical, intellectual, or mental disabilities and supporting them in their daily lives is a challenging yet fulfilling task. If you already have experience in this field and would like to deepen it, then our training or retraining program to become a special education teacher/caregiver is perfect for you.
Through practical, work-integrated training, you will expand your knowledge and experience and earn a state-recognized qualification.
Requirements for participation
You can participate in the training/retraining program…
…if you have a secondary school leaving certificate and
- three years of relevant professional experience or
- a three-year vocational training and at least 900 hours of relevant professional experience or
- a special education assistant training
…if you have an equivalent school leaving certificate from another country as well as proof of German language skills at level B2 and
- three years of relevant professional experience or
- a three-year vocational training and at least 900 hours of relevant professional experience
…if you can prove you have a university entrance qualification and at least 900 hours of relevant professional experience.
If you do not meet the participation requirements, special admission is possible in justified individual cases.
With us you can complete your vocational training as a special education teacher in the form of retraining (for clients of the job center/employment agency) or part-time vocational training (for employees in special education facilities and sheltered workshops).

The course is structured in modules. The content is based on the learning areas of the special education nursing training as well as on the experiences and practical knowledge of the participants.
If needed, the lessons are supplemented by specialized pedagogical language training.

Cost contribution:
In-service training for employees: Employers can apply for a subsidy from the Federal Employment Agency via the Qualification Opportunities Act.
Retraining for job seekers/career returners: Funding via an education voucher from the job center/Federal Employment Agency is possible.
Individual funding can be applied for via the Federal Training Assistance Act (Aufstiegs-BAföG - ASBG).

1,920 teaching units (TU) + 480 TU alternative learning formats + block weeks + 1,200 hours of internship or professional practice
