Recognized guardianship association of the city of Bremen

Hilfswerk Bremen e.V. has been a recognized guardianship association of the city of Bremen since 1992 and is a subsidiary of Lebenshilfe Bremen. With locations in Bremen-Walle and Bremen-Vegesack, the association offers local support in the areas of legal guardianship and personal planning.

One of the core tasks is the provision of legal guardianships in accordance with Sections 1814 et seq. of the German Civil Code (BGB). Furthermore, Hilfswerk Bremen recruits, supports, and advises volunteer guardians. These volunteers receive assistance in assuming and carrying out their duties through personal consultations, training courses, and continuing education. If necessary, the guardianship association can also be appointed as a substitute guardian. Another focus is on advising on advance directives. This includes, in particular, powers of attorney, guardianship directives, and living wills. Hilfswerk Bremen also offers expert lectures and training courses.

The aim of our work is to strengthen and preserve the self-determination, quality of life, and participation of people. With a wide range of advisory and support services, Hilfswerk Bremen contributes to ensuring legal and personal support for people who, due to illness or disability, are unable to manage their affairs themselves, or can only do so partially.
