A new kind of meeting place, education and discussion for Bremen's child and youth welfare services
Anyone entering forum49 should feel from the first moment that we want to contribute to the further development of child and youth welfare in our city with this place. We want to initiate discussions and encourage active participation, because we are convinced that a cross-organizational dialogue will produce the best solutions for the challenges ahead.
The name forum49 is a reminder of the founding of the SOS Children's Villages association in April 1949 by the Austrian Hermann Gmeiner. He raised money for the idea of building a village for orphans. At the time, Gmeiner himself had no idea that this would become the foundation of a worldwide aid organization.
Since we wanted to create a place where discussion is understood as an indispensable basis for further development, we named it forum49 – forum as a place of discussion and 49 as a reminder that even the greatest developments begin with the first step.
With forum49, the SOS Children's Village Bremen is pursuing the vision of creating a new kind of meeting place, education, and discussion for child and youth welfare in Bremen. In addition to attractively designed spaces in a central location, this primarily requires a program that is highly relevant for professionals working in the field.
With our program, we aim to offer professionals numerous opportunities to participate in events at forum49. There, professionals from various disciplines and organizations within the child and youth welfare sector can meet, learn from one another, and discuss their experiences. Our events are designed to support professionals in their demanding and challenging daily work. To this end, we collaborate with established speakers, but we also provide a platform for newcomers.
