A collaborative event organized by the Central Office of the State Women's Representative (ZGF), the Dementia Information and Coordination Center (DIKS), the Bremen Chamber of Employees and the Senator for Health, Women and Consumer Protection (SGFV) on the occasion of the International Day of Caregivers.

Wednesday, October 7, 2026, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m

Some countries and cities already have dementia strategies. These demonstrate that a coordinated strategy networks care and healthcare services, strategically pools resources, strengthens prevention, and ensures quality of life in everyday situations. Such a strategy can sustainably address the rising number of people with dementia, relieve the burden on caregivers, moderate cost increases, and position Bremen as a future-proof, family-friendly, and inclusive city. With this event, we aim to provide expert input for a potential dementia strategy and to give voice to various perspectives on the topic.

program:

  • Greeting from the State Councillor for Nursing, Barbara Scriba-Hermann (SGFV)
  • Expert input from the "AK Pflege" of the bremer forum frauen*gesundheit with video recordings of interviews with family caregivers
  • Panel discussion: "What would a Bremen dementia strategy need?"
    • Tanja Meier: Dementia Information and Coordination Center (DIKS)
    • Greta-Marleen Storath: Bremen Chamber of Employees
    • Johanna Kaste: State Association of Independent Welfare Organizations Bremen (LAG) Jürgen Weemeyer: Federal Association of Private Social Service Providers (bpa)
