Roundtable on Men's Health

Men with low incomes have the shortest life expectancy in our society. At the same time, these men make less use of health promotion and prevention programs, as well as early detection measures.

The Bremen Round Table on Men's Health, which includes representatives from academia and practice, is addressing this issue together. Scientific findings and methods are being combined with concrete practical experience to develop and test health-promoting programs for this target group, particularly those focused on specific neighborhoods and settings.

Bremen West Prevention Council

The goal of the Prevention Council is to promote peaceful coexistence and improve the quality of life in Bremen West.

By strengthening community spirit and a sense of "we," as well as individual initiative and self-organization, a "culture of cooperation and consideration" is fostered in the neighborhood. To this end, the prevention council aims to promote networking in the sense of collaboration and information exchange.

The prevention council brings together various local forces such as committed citizens and employees from the areas of children, youth and family, health, social services, sports, housing, police, religious communities, culture, education, offices and authorities, neighborhood organizations and politics, pools expertise and builds sustainable, reliable regional prevention.

In principle, the Prevention Council is open to all topics that support its goals. This allows for flexible responses to regional changes. The Bremen West Prevention Council works on various topics in sub-working groups, for example:

  • UAG Zukunft Gröpelingen
  • UAG Addiction and Prevention
  • UAG Waste Prevention

AG Movement / Gröpelinger Sports Mile

The AG Bewegung / Gröpelinger Sportmeile (Working Group Movement / Gröpelingen Sports Mile) is a collaborative working group that thrives on its open and participatory nature. More than ten different organizations work together to offer Gröpelingen residents of all ages a health-promoting activity framework in which they can actively improve their health, either individually or together with others.

In this sense, the cooperation between different institutions is the driving force behind the Gröpelingen sports mile and the working group.

The Gröpelingen Sports Mile is our open-air exercise paradise, stretching through two parallel green spaces and connecting the districts of Oslebshausen, Ohlenhof, and Gröpelingen. The four measured, signposted running and exercise routes, some almost seven kilometers long, link all other available play, sports, and exercise facilities.

Under the motto "Health in Green Spaces," the Gröpelingen Sports Mile operates as a vibrant neighborhood project with high development potential. Various facilities around the Gröpelingen Sports Mile offer open exercise opportunities for diverse target groups.

Furthermore, Gröpelingen, with its many public green spaces and open areas, offers a wide range of opportunities to be active outdoors in the fresh air. This is precisely the focus of the "Movement/Gröpelingen Sports Mile" working group, which meets several times a year to promote and further develop the Gröpelingen Sports Mile with diverse ideas.
