Guidance and confidence in action for educational professionals

Spiderman has long been a favorite, and the heroes of Paw Patrol are almost daily fixtures at the daycare: media has long been an integral part of children's lives. It influences their play, their conversations, and their everyday routines – and also presents educators with new challenges. The central theme of this training course is how children can grow up healthy with media – and how educators can support them in this process.

Online training dates:

How do I deal with it when a child talks about nothing but their favorite TV show for days on end? Can preschool children already be addicted to media? And is it even our job as early childhood educators to provide media education in preschool?

If you've ever asked yourself these questions, you're not alone. Media has long been a part of everyday life for many kindergarten children – and thus also in conversations, play, and sometimes in the challenges of daily kindergarten life. For educators, it's not always easy to assess how to deal with this appropriately.

Furthermore, intensive media use is a relatively new topic. For many professionals, media and its effects on child development were not part of their own training.

This training course is therefore not about trying out tablets or testing apps together – in other words, about teaching how to use media. Instead, we will take a closer look: What effect does media consumption have on children? How do children perceive media? And what impact can media use have on their health and development?

Among other things, we will be addressing the following questions:

  • How much media consumption is actually appropriate for kindergarten children?
  • What impact can media use have on movement and physical activity?
  • What does media consumption have to do with language development?
  • Under certain conditions, could media perhaps even provide positive impulses for movement or language?
  • What role do nutrition and media play?
  • And above all: What role can and should educational professionals play in this?

You will gain concise, fundamental knowledge about healthy media use and have ample opportunity to apply what you learn to your own daily work in the daycare center. Using case studies and practical exercises, we will examine typical situations, develop possible courses of action, and exchange experiences and solutions.

Here's what you'll take with you:

  • well-founded, clearly presented knowledge about media consumption and its effects on children's health
  • a better understanding of how children experience and process media
  • practical insights into movement, language, nutrition and media
  • Ideas for dealing with typical media situations in everyday kindergarten life
  • Exchange and practical suggestions from other educational professionals
