Since 1849, we have been committed to helping people in need in the Hanseatic city of Bremen. Our goal is to open up new paths and perspectives for them, to accompany them on their journey, and to offer them concrete assistance.

For over 170 years, the Inner Mission Association in Bremen has been supporting people in need, regardless of their culture or religion. We offer help and prospects for the future. We always treat people's concerns with respect and tolerance. Furthermore, we uphold their dignity and their right to self-determination at all times, because for us, people are at the heart of everything we do.

We are guided by Christian values such as love of neighbor and respect. Over 500 full-time employees and just as many dedicated volunteers work towards these values every day. Our mission statement summarizes the values to which we are committed.

The 21st century is also marked by hardship, such as unemployment, housing shortages, mental and physical health problems, and a lack of prosperity. Through our professional work, we aim to give people new hope and show them new paths to improvement.

The Bremen-based Inner Mission Association is divided into the following areas of work: counseling, employment, refugees and migration, psychosocial support, homelessness services, and programs for children and young people. Through our subsidiaries, we are also active in outpatient care and inpatient hospice care. Our actions are guided by the needs of the people we serve. We operate a highly differentiated range of inpatient, day-care, and outpatient support services to meet their needs. To ensure this remains the case in the future, we critically examine our services and foster a willingness to embrace change.

The Bremen Inner Mission was founded in 1849 by approximately 60 men and women from Bremen with the aim of providing intensive support to people in need in Bremen. The impetus for its founding was a speech given in the Hanseatic city by the Protestant theologian Johann Hinrich Wichern. In it, he called upon his church to address the social needs of the people more actively. To this day, we are part of the social work of the Protestant Church in Bremen and the third-largest diaconal employer in Bremen, offering a unique range of services.
