Qualification of career changers with relevant professional experience for the elementary education sector

Practical experience in the daycare center, theory with us at PBW: This is how you can become a qualified early childhood educator for working with children aged 0 to 6 as a group leader in a daycare center in just 10 months!

If you have already completed a related course of study or training, you can qualify with us as a specialist for the elementary sector while working and thus become a group leader in Bremen's daycare centers and nurseries.

From day one, you will work in the daycare center, receive payment for your time, and simultaneously receive the necessary expertise in early childhood education through various modules. Upon successful completion, you can work as a group leader in the early childhood education sector in the state of Bremen.

Requirements for participation

Who can participate in the qualification program for career changers with relevant professional experience for the early childhood education sector?

• Individuals with a university or university of applied sciences degree in education as a major or minor subject (Diploma, Magister, Master, Bachelor and teachers with a first state examination, Bachelor, Master)
• Individuals with a university or university of applied sciences degree in a related field
• People with a relevant vocational qualification (e.g. occupational and work therapist, deacon, ergotherapist, midwife/obstetrician, art teacher, speech therapist, motor therapist, music teacher, physiotherapist, sports teacher, theatre teacher)
• Individuals with a qualification as a childcare worker or social education assistant plus five years of professional experience and regular participation in further training.

The providers and the Senate Department for Children and Education will check whether you can participate in the qualification.

The teaching modules cover important topics in early childhood education:

• Shaping pedagogical relationships
• Working pedagogically with groups
• Designing communication with children and their parents/guardians to be tailored to the target audience
• Supporting children in their language development
• Shaping socio-pedagogical educational processes
• Legal foundations of socio-educational work in daycare centers and nurseries
• Shaping educational partnerships with parents/guardians
• Examination module “Practical work”
