Children are very dear to us, because they are the most precious thing we have.
They should grow up happy, stable, and in a loving environment. For this, children need good and reliable companions who support them in discovering the world and becoming strong individuals.
Not all children in Bremen are lucky enough to live like this. Many children in our city are not doing well: they suffer from physical and emotional abuse. Some are victims of abuse or experience firsthand every day what it means to be poor. That's why we want to do something for these children together with you!
Since 2011, the Bremen Child Protection Foundation has been actively and sustainably committed to child protection. We support assistance and counselling services for children, young people, parents, and educational professionals.
What we do for children in Bremen
All children, regardless of their family or background, deserve a good life. They need a peaceful environment and people who take them seriously and are there for them. For this, it is important to have caregivers who can address their fears and worries, listen to them, work with them to find solutions in difficult situations, and encourage them.
Unfortunately, this isn't always the case. Sometimes home isn't truly home; parents are overwhelmed by their responsibilities, and children suffer violence and neglect. The Bremen Child Protection Foundation provides financial support for projects that empower children and young people.
We want to help them discover and use their own strengths and potential. That's why we co-finance services that provide free and rapid assistance to children, young people, and parents in crisis situations.
Our partner in this endeavor is the Bremen Child Protection Association, a recognized and professional organization. With its experience and expertise, the Child Protection Association has been helping children in need for over 70 years. We support, for example, the Child Protection Center and projects that benefit children, parents, and professionals, so that more children in Bremen can grow up well.
Board of Directors and Board of Trustees – With Heart and Mind.
The Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees manage the Bremen Child Protection Foundation and represent it externally. They review and approve funding applications and ensure that the foundation's assets are used responsibly and sustainably. We are all united by one motivation: Bremen's children and their future.
We promote this:
- Empowering children: Violence prevention in primary schools.
Children should know where to find help in cases of conflict or violence and what they can do. The project “Children in need require solutions” has already reached more than 7,500 children, their parents, and teachers at Bremen primary schools. Thanks to funding from the Child Protection Foundation, many classes can participate free of charge. - Training volunteers: Competent in refugee aid.
Volunteers in refugee aid must be able to deal with trauma, work in a culturally sensitive manner, and need methods that work without a common language. The foundation therefore supports, for example, workshops that provide them with this knowledge and the necessary practical tools for their work with children. - Free and anonymous help: The "Number Against Sorrow"
helpline. Worries and troubles don't adhere to a schedule: The "Number Against Sorrow" is always there for children and young people when they need someone to talk to. Every year, 500 people in Bremen call for advice. The service is financed entirely through donations and third-party funding – the Child Protection Foundation also helps ensure that children and young people can always find a listening ear. - In cases of separation and divorce: Facilitating meetings.
Children are often the ones who suffer most during separation or divorce. If the conflict between the parents escalates particularly intensely, children need support to meet the parent they live with. Educational professionals from the Bremen Child Protection Association support parents and children during such meetings. The Child Protection Foundation, for example, partially finances personnel costs and provides the furnishings for the play and counseling rooms.
