Child and youth welfare
St. Theresienhaus was founded in 1927 by the Catholic Welfare Association of Bremen. Its eventful history is largely characterized by the adaptation of the type and scope of support offered to young people to societal changes. St. Theresienhaus thus evolved from a small infant home into an innovative and modern child and youth welfare institution. Today's services in residential, day-care, and outpatient settings for children, adolescents, young adults, and families reflect contemporary realities. Our educational approach is grounded in a Christian-humanistic worldview. We believe that every person possesses creative potential that empowers them to reach their full potential.
Interpersonal relationships and social responsibility are essential for mental health and self-realization. We carefully strive to foster this development in children, adolescents, and their families, and to initiate a process of resocialization. We consider it fundamental to provide these individuals with a place in society that empowers them to participate socially and culturally, and promotes responsible coexistence and tolerance. St. Theresienhaus offers children, adolescents, and their families support services and new perspectives, also in light of changing societal demands. Our child and youth welfare services, as defined by the German Social Code, Book VIII (SGB VIII), are comprised of residential, day-care, and outpatient programs.
