Information portal “but of course!”

The alliance "but safe! – together for a safer Bremen" is committed to making Bremen a safer place to drive. On the information portal, teachers can find the necessary teaching materials and suggestions for traffic education, as well as traffic education modules that we and our partners bring to schools to support traffic lessons.

Topics/Materials:

School Route: Once a year, we offer the "Active and Safe to School!" campaign for all grade levels. Over a three-week period in autumn, we aim to encourage as many children as possible to walk to school, thereby reducing the number of parents driving their children to school and raising awareness among children and parents about the benefits of walking. The SCHOOL EXPRESS is a so-called "walking bus" that operates without parental accompaniment. Approximately 10-12 stops serve as meeting points for the children in the mornings, where they then walk to school together. This project promotes children's independence and physical activity. Additionally, the children are accompanied on their school routes by yellow footprints. The Bremen and Bremerhaven police paint small yellow footprints at the safest places for children to cross the street, showing them the most secure route to school.

Mobility and traffic education: Traffic education is an important topic that accompanies children throughout their school years. It is anchored in the framework curriculum for general studies. In cooperation with the partners of the "aber sicher" working group, we want to support all teachers in the state of Bremen in the theoretical and practical aspects of traffic education.

Teaching materials: School route booklet, wheelchair pass, scooter pass, traffic memory game, traffic hero audio stories, films, etc.

Successfully supporting children with ASD/ADHD

Expert advice

The support needs of children in childcare settings have shifted noticeably in recent years. Today, the focus is on the challenges of managing behavioral difficulties across the spectrum of neurodiversity. The diverse mix of professionals working in childcare centers faces significant challenges in providing these children with the necessary, safe environment. Internal specialist advisors are reaching the limits of their resources. This is where we aim to contribute our expertise and offer specialist consultation.

Our consulting settings:

  • as a specialist advisor for a group team
  • case-by-case support in parent-teacher conferences

As part of our professional consultation, we conduct observation visits with staff members and accompany them in their work with children to provide practical, individualized support and advice. We introduce you to various methods and provide materials such as handouts, informational materials, and learning resources. This serves to disseminate knowledge internally and make it accessible to other professionals.

The spectrum of neurodiversity:

We are referring to the wide range of neurological differences, including autism, ADHD, Tourette syndrome, and many more. Instead of viewing these differences as deficits, neurodiversity as an approach emphasizes their strengths and potential, as well as the importance of an inclusive society that respects and supports individual needs and abilities.

A neurodiversity-oriented approach can better prepare educators to understand the needs of different neurological profiles and to develop appropriate support strategies that respond to the diversity of children. This can contribute to the positive development and increased self-confidence of the children in their care, while simultaneously promoting their participation in society.

The specialist advice contributes to improving the quality of educational work in daycare centers, strengthening the resilience of staff, providing support in parental counselling as needed, and thus ensuring the best possible care and development of the children.

Cost: We charge €95.00 per hour for expert advice.

Professional development days: As part of our professional development program, we would be happy to work with you to design a professional development day on this topic. Please contact us!

Domestic violence and its effects on children and adolescents

A training course using the film "Wutmann"

Domestic violence, defined as relationship violence between adults, occurs in all social classes. It manifests itself in very different forms of physical, psychological, and sexual violence. Domestic violence usually takes place in secret and is often downplayed by those affected.

The experiences of children and young people quickly fade into the background and do not receive the necessary attention.

In our training courses, we explicitly focus on the affected children and young people.

Using the film "Wutmann" (Angry Man), we want to explore the effects of domestic violence. We will examine family dynamics as well as available help and support options.

Safe conduct in child protection

Principles for effective action in cases of suspected child endangerment

Children in difficult life situations depend on effective protection and targeted support. Professionals play a central role here: they are important caregivers and bear responsibility for the children entrusted to their care.

To fulfill this responsibility, fundamental knowledge of the duty to protect children and confidence in handling suspected cases of child endangerment are essential. At the same time, working with affected children, parents, and other involved parties repeatedly presents professionals with personal and professional challenges.

In this training course you will acquire the knowledge and confidence to effectively protect children, provide them with professional support, and also strengthen yourself.

Training content:

  • Recognizing violence against children and signs of neglect
  • Professional conduct in cases of suspected child endangerment
  • Legal certainty in dealing with Section 8a of the German Social Code, Book VIII (SGB VIII)
  • Strengthening children's participation
  • Dealing with parents
  • Reflecting on one's own feelings and boundaries
  • Help and support services for professionals

Protection concepts against violence against children and young people

In this training, participants will explore the concept of violence, learn about perpetrator strategies, and focus on the situation of those affected. An overview of the individual components of a safeguarding policy will be provided, with the aim of leaving the training with impetus for the further development of such a policy.

Training in supervised interaction

Introduction to the educational and legal aspects of supervised contact

This basic training provides insight into the implementation of supervised contact from a child-centered perspective. Using case studies, the following questions, among others, will be clarified/discussed:

  • What are the challenges for children, parents, and professionals?
  • What fundamental principles and pitfalls need to be considered?
  • What are the goals, and how variable and dynamic are the objectives for all involved?
  • To what extent are children's rights compatible with parental rights of access?

Predominantly ordered by the family court and/or implemented by case management, supervised visits can significantly support the initiation, resumption, or maintenance of relationships between children and parents.

There are numerous reasons for installing a condominium unit: divorce, separation, hidden parenthood, high-conflict situations, domestic violence, drug abuse, etc. Often, other reasons remain hidden.

Protecting the children in this sensitive process, recognizing their needs, and creating an action plan is the core of the measure.
