Our training program provides you with practical knowledge and skills for supporting, assisting, and including neurodivergent individuals in various professional settings. The focus is on both the needs and strengths of those affected and the demands placed on professionals, teams, and institutions. The goal is to develop an inclusive understanding of diversity and to learn concrete approaches for neurodiversity-supportive practices.

Education from a child's perspective

Continuing education

Education from a child's perspective – project work in the context of the Bremen education plan

Project work is considered one of the most effective ways to holistically promote children's learning in the elementary sector – provided that it is truly geared towards the interests and needs of the children.

The new educational concepts of the state of Bremen clearly emphasize that educational processes in early childhood should be individualized, relevant to children's lives, and participatory. They encourage professionals to seize upon learning opportunities from children's everyday experiences and specifically link them to the development of competencies. This professional development course supports you in initiating and implementing child-centered projects with children aged 0-6 – both as a response to children's impulses and as a structured pedagogical intervention. In this process, all areas of learning become visible in their interconnectedness. The aim is to understand project work not only as a method but also as an attitude – with a view to a sustainable and coherent educational biography, including during the transition to primary school.

Healthy use of media in childhood and adolescence

Develop and implement municipal services together

Nationwide, there has been demonstrable evidence for years of an increasing and earlier use of digital media by children, starting as early as primary school age. This is facilitated by the rapidly increasing availability of digital media in the households of the target group.

The project “Healthy use of media in childhood and adolescence” pursues the overarching goal of promoting media literacy and healthy use of media among children and young people between 6 and 16 years of age and their parents.

In the state of Bremen, the aim is to specifically target children, young people and parents from socially disadvantaged backgrounds through programs in the school and neighborhood environments, including media education programs for children in primary schools, multi-part workshops or expert conferences for young people in the neighborhood and programs for parents.

Goals

The project focuses on promoting healthy media use among children and young people, aiming to foster media literacy combined with strengthening health literacy within this target group. The planned measures will be implemented in the settings of primary school (ages 6-11) and neighborhood (ages 11-16). Parents will also be involved in both settings.

This will involve utilizing existing effective structures such as health professionals in schools and health professionals in Bremen's neighborhoods. These and other multipliers will be trained in media education and media literacy, and corresponding programs will be developed and implemented.

Specific areas of action include media addiction and digital violence/cyberbullying, as well as topics such as body image, healthy use of devices (duration, posture, eye hygiene, etc.), promoting physical activity through the use of digital media, and finding reliable (health-related) information.

Measures

Existing programs promoting media literacy for children, young people, and their parents/guardians in the state of Bremen are being researched. At the primary schools participating in the "Health Professionals at Bremen Schools" project, all fourth-grade students will be offered media literacy training during the project.
Parent evenings or parent cafés on the topic of media literacy will also be offered at all participating primary schools during the project period.

At the deployment locations of Bremen's healthcare professionals in the WiN districts of Bremen and in Bremerhaven, programs for young people and their parents are being developed or implemented by professional, external organizations to promote media literacy. Municipal organizations (such as youth centers, family centers, adult education centers, etc.) are involved in this process.

Healthcare professionals in schools and neighborhoods, as well as other professionals in the education and social sectors, have been sensitized to the topic and trained as multipliers. Information on media literacy counseling and support services is compiled and made available to multipliers and the dialogue group.
Registration is open for primary schools.

Advice for professionals

Advice for educational professionals

Our advisory services are aimed at all educational professionals who, in their professional context, are confronted with right-wing extremist families and/or their children and the various problems arising from this.

This could include, for example, employees of independent child and youth welfare organizations, professionals in youth welfare offices, schools or daycare centers who notice problematic or conspicuous behavior in parents and/or children and would like to address this issue.

  • "In my daycare group, parents have told me that all these multicultural books only confuse children and make them sick. They're now demanding that we replace all the books with supposedly better ones. What can I do about it?"
  • “No case manager wants to visit this particular family because the parents are openly right-wing extremist and aggressive. But how do we protect the children?”
  • “One child always comes to class dressed too lightly. Last week, they started drawing swastikas. How can we, as a staff, deal with this?”

How we advise:

The location, duration and scope of the consultation depend on the needs and requirements of the person seeking advice and range from one-off conversations to long-term support processes.

We offer systemic, solution-oriented consulting: situations are assessed together, and clients learn to recognize their limitations and resources. The aim is to strengthen their ability to act through self-help.

Our consultations take place live in our offices in Bremen or as a video-based online format. We also refer you to our competent network and cooperation partners throughout Germany who can advise you in person at your location.

We offer free, straightforward, confidential, and, if desired, anonymous consultations. Our staff are qualified, and our work is geared towards the long term.

To arrange an appointment, please send us an email, use the contact form or leave a message on our answering machine with a telephone number where we can call you back.

Legato Bremen

Democracy Lives! - Model Project

The civil society organization Ambulante Maßnahmen Altona e. V. is implementing the "Democracy Lives!" model project Legato Bremen. The project aims to counteract anti-democratic attitudes and politically and/or religiously motivated radicalization among young people in prison and during probation at an early stage.

The organization provides systemic counseling, discussion groups, and educational programs for inmates. An interdisciplinary team works in several modules both inside and outside the prison system. The focus is on interrupting radicalization processes and counteracting social isolation and disintegration. Disengagement processes are initiated and professionally supported as needed.

The training and professional development of staff in the prison system and the entire transitional system, including probation and beyond, as well as in youth services within criminal proceedings, is a central element of the project. The aim is for professionals to gain sensitivity and confidence in dealing with at-risk and already radicalized young people, and for the experiences and knowledge gained from the project to be integrated into the standard system.

Furthermore, the aim is to develop operational certainty regarding data protection and risk management, methods for systemic disengagement work, and systemic expert advice for subsequent projects as well. Legato Bremen is funded by the federal program "Democracy Live!" and is a project in cooperation with the Senator for Justice and Constitution of Bremen.
