For people with mental impairment, a mental and/or addiction disorder, or in stressful phases of life

Need a listening ear and support for… distress within the social psychiatric care and/or addiction support system?

Anger – Conflicts – Discrimination – Stigmatization – Fears – Worries – Mental health problems – Clarification of your questions – Injustices – Enforcement of your concerns

We are here to help: independent advocacy and complaints offices of the community psychiatric networks (GPV) in the Bremen regions of Mitte, Nord, Ost, Süd, West as well as in Bremerhaven.

For whom?

Our free service is aimed at all people with mental health challenges, mental illness and/or addiction, or who are going through difficult times in their lives. Whether you have already had experience with the social psychiatric care or addiction support system, or are just now seeking help, is irrelevant. Family members, friends, and colleagues are also welcome to contact us.

Why we can do this:

Because we advocates know from our own experience severe crises, mental health challenges, and/or addictions. We understand exactly how difficult it can be in some situations to be heard and to assert one's own needs and rights.

On our personal journeys through crisis management, we (EX-IN recovery companions and peers) have learned about helpful strategies and resources. We are well-connected and know that everyone sometimes simply needs support.

  • Do you want your concerns to be taken seriously and heard?
  • Do you have something you would like to clarify regarding your therapy, care, facility or intervention?
  • Do you wish to file a complaint?
  • Do you feel disadvantaged or discriminated against because of your illness or current condition?
  • Do you need support from your service providers or other official bodies?

How we will support you:

  • We are here for you if you need some time to sort out your thoughts
  • We take our time, listen to you, and treat your request with strict confidentiality: we are bound by professional secrecy
  • We will plan together with you whether and how we will proceed
  • We will only become active at your request, your "action order"
  • We will advocate for you and support you in making your voice heard and/or filing a complaint
  • We will assist you in enforcing your rights and interests at the appropriate stage

Achieving more together:

Issues that are causing concern are brought to the attention of various expert committees through us – naturally, anonymously, as confidentiality and data protection are of paramount importance to us.
By contacting us, you are helping to improve social psychiatric and addiction support services.

GPV – what is it?

The Community Psychiatric Networks (CPV) Central, East, North, South, and West are collaborations between social psychiatric and addiction support providers in the city of Bremen. The partner organizations have committed themselves to ensuring needs-based treatment and care for those affected in their respective regions. The "independent advocacy and complaints offices" are integrated into the CPVs as points of contact for quality management.

In Bremerhaven, there is a body very similar to the GPV in the city of Bremen: the Psychosocial Working Group (PSAK) of the Bremerhaven Community Psychiatric Network. The PSAK is tasked with coordinating the planning, establishment, and further development of a comprehensive care and support service for people with intellectual and multiple disabilities, mental illnesses, and addictions.

He advises the city council and political bodies. He is supported in this by four coordinating committees, including the committees for general psychiatry and for people with addictions. The advocacy and complaints office can attend the meetings of all coordinating committees as a guest with the right to speak; in practice, it has the same tasks as the advocacy and complaints offices in the city of Bremen.
