Nationwide consultation, advice and information service for parents and other caregivers

Since 2001, the "Number Against Sorrow" parent helpline has been a nationwide service offering conversation, advice, and information, supporting parents and other caregivers with the often difficult questions of raising their children. Number Against Sorrow e.V. thus provides parents and other caregivers with easily accessible and free help to positively influence the daily lives of parents and, consequently, their children.

Of course, we will treat your request confidentially. You can rest assured that the parents' helpline number will not be listed in the itemized call records on your phone bill.

The parents' helpline can be reached free of charge at the nationwide toll-free number 0800 111 0 550. There are currently 37 locations in Germany with approximately 800 trained counselors who volunteer their time.

Who can contact the parents' helpline?

The parents' helpline is there for all parents and other caregivers who are worried about their child, feel overwhelmed or sometimes helpless.

When can I reach someone on the parents' helpline?

The parents' helpline is available Mon-Fri from 9am to 5pm and Tue+Thu additionally until 7pm.

How can the parents' helpline support me?

We listen and take each of your problems seriously. Together, we will look for solutions tailored to your personal situation and provide you with guidance. If needed, we can also provide you with information about organizations that can offer additional support.

What questions can I ask the parents' helpline?

No matter what's causing you stress or overwhelming stress in your daily life, don't worry that your problem might not seem important to us. You can contact the parents' helpline with any questions or concerns: whether it's about parenting issues, difficulties at school, family crises, addiction, or internet dangers. It makes no difference whether you "just" have a question or need advice.

What questions can the parents' helpline not help me with?

We cannot advise you on medical or legal matters, nor can we provide ongoing (psycho)therapy.

Who can advise me on the parents' helpline?

The counseling is provided by specially trained advisors who understand the challenges parents face. All advisors are volunteers and come from diverse backgrounds.

Can I choose who advises me?

That's not possible. When you call us, you will be automatically forwarded to an available consultant.

Does using the service cost anything?

No, the parents' helpline number is free nationwide. Of course, we will treat your request confidentially. You can also rest assured that the parents' helpline number will not be listed in the itemized call records on your phone bill.

Do I have to give my name?

The parents' helpline is an anonymous service. You don't have to give your name or any other personal information that concerns you or others. Everything you discuss on the parents' helpline stays between us.

Are there other ways to reach the "Number against Sorrow"?

Currently, only telephone consultations are available for parents and other caregivers.

In which language will I receive help?

The advice provided on the parent helpline is usually in German. It is possible that a counselor might also speak another language, but this is not always the case.
