FAQ
What is the Bremen Free Card?
The FreiKarte is a prepaid card given by the state of Bremen to all children and young people whose primary residence is in Bremen or Bremerhaven. This gives them the opportunity to catch up on activities they missed during the Corona pandemic.
How do I get the free ticket?
The free public transport pass is sent automatically by post to all children and young people up to the age of 18 who live in Bremen or Bremerhaven. Those who move to Bremen and register their new address will receive the pass with a delay.
Similarly, those born in Bremen in 2022 and 2023 will receive their pass somewhat later, after registration by the registry offices.
Where can I use the Bremen free ticket?
You can find all the places in Bremen and Bremerhaven where you can pay for admission with the FreiKarte here.
What can I pay for with the free card?
At the locations listed under "Who's Participating," you can use the FreiKarte to pay for your entry. Where you need special equipment, such as for ice skating or bouldering, you can also use the card to pay for rentals. At venues where you're not allowed to bring your own food and drinks, these can usually be purchased on-site with the card. You can also use the FreiKarte to pay for the entry of one accompanying adult. Whether specific offers or special rates, such as family tickets, can be paid for with the card is determined by each individual venue.
Where can I see my current balance?
If you want to know how much money is left on your FreiKarte, you need your card number and activation code. Click on the link and enter the number and code here; your balance will then be displayed. If you pay with the FreiKarte, the remaining balance will also be shown on your receipt.
Is the credit limited in time?
Yes, any credit balance is redeemable until December 31, 2023. The FreiKarte Bremen (Bremen Free Card) is loaded with €60 for 2022, and another €60 will be added on January 1, 2023. If you have any credit remaining in 2022, it will be available to you in the new year. The FreiKarte will also be available again in 2024 and 2025.
Is the free card transferable?
No. However, if you are only allowed to use an offer when accompanied by an adult, you can also pay for that person's entry with the free card. But only if you wish to do so. The staff at the participating establishments are trained to only process card payments in conjunction with the cardholder.
Can school classes also use the free ticket?
Use by public institutions such as schools is not intended. The free card is designed to allow children and young people up to the age of 18 to tailor their leisure activities to their personal preferences and use the credit at various leisure facilities depending on their individual interests.
How do I pay with the free card?
Instead of paying with cash, you swipe your FreiKarte (free card) through the card reader and the amount is deducted from your balance. The sales staff will be happy to assist you with any questions. The amount on my card is too low for another purchase. What now?
Please ask the sales staff before paying if a mixed payment is possible, i.e., if you can pay part with your FreiKarte and the rest with cash, for example. Whether this is possible depends on the establishment.
My card has been successfully activated, but I can't use it to pay at the checkout. What's the problem?
There could be several reasons why your FreiKarte isn't working. Please make sure the card is accepted at the location and that there is sufficient credit available for the transaction. Mixed payments (FreiKarte and cash or debit card) are not possible everywhere. If none of the above applies, please contact us by phone at 115 or via our contact form.
Can the FreiKarte Bremen be topped up with personal credit?
No. It is not possible to top up the free card with your own credit.
I've lost my Bremen free ticket. What do I need to do?
If you lose the card, you also lose the money. Your balance will not be refunded and your card will not be replaced. If you lose your free card, please fill out the contact form. We will then block your card. Please note that the block cannot be reversed even if you find the card again! Reactivation is not possible.
I haven't received my free card or activation code. What now?
Please use our contact form and we will take care of it. We apologize for any delivery errors. We have to cancel the free tickets lost in the mail, reproduce them, and personalize them. This process may take some time. We appreciate your patience.
What do I need to do if I want my credit to benefit others?
A one-to-one transfer of the €60 is not possible; the card is non-transferable. However, those who don't need the €60 can still use the card and either donate the saved money freely or simply invite underage friends to use the card when visiting leisure facilities.
Where does the map come from?
The map was produced in Europe, more precisely in Sicily, and is made from recycled PVC.
Are there any other facilities where I can use the free card?
Yes, the list of participating establishments is constantly being expanded. As soon as we gain new partners for the project where you can use your card, we will gladly inform you via newsletter.
Which of the participating facilities have barrier-free access?
