Silbernetz offers nationwide support for older people aged 60 and over who experience loneliness. With a three-tiered program, it opens doors out of isolation.

Loneliness can affect anyone, regardless of gender, culture, or beliefs – certainly more often when combined with poverty. Silbernetz connects people: its permanent and volunteer staff come from all walks of life and all age groups. This multicultural approach is reflected in Silbernetz's three-tiered services and its organizational structure, connecting generations. Silbernetz is a service of the non-profit organization Silbernetz, a network against loneliness founded in Berlin in 2014.

• Silver telephone: just talk when needed

You don't need a crisis or a problem to call here – the desire to talk is enough. The conversation is anonymous, confidential, and free of charge. The volunteers at the Silver Helpline listen, offer support, provide encouragement, and can offer initial information. The Silver Helpline also accepts requests for a Silver Network friendship.

• Silver Network Friendship: regular telephone conversations with a trusted person

Once a week, at a pre-arranged time, volunteer Silver Network friends call "their" elderly friend for an hour. This provides personal contact and confidential conversation – regularly and reliably. The Silver Network friends check in and listen. They can encourage first steps out of isolation and provide information about suitable local services.
