Practical strategies for understanding refusal behavior as an expression of needs and conflicts, and for dealing with it professionally through prevention, de-escalation and constructive communication.

November 12, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In their work with clients, virtually every professional in social work has encountered resistance. Resistance disrupts daily routines, interferes with communication and relationships, and can evoke negative emotions in everyone involved. However, every instance of resistance has a purpose for the client. From this perspective, practical examples of potential triggers, conflicting needs, and emotions associated with resistance will be identified.

  • Why do boundaries and aggression occur so frequently?
  • How can I maintain a dialogue despite refusal?
  • How can I identify the underlying conflict?
  • How can we find new ways?

This seminar will demonstrate methods for prevention, de-escalation, and follow-up. It will show you how to approach conflict differently.

Target group: Educational professionals from residential or outpatient settings.
Learning outcomes: After the seminar, you will be more confident in dealing with resistance. You will understand the causes and solutions and be able to apply them.
