You hear and read more and more about neurodiversity and neurodivergence and wonder what's behind it?
The terms neurodiversity and neurodivergence have gained increasing importance in recent years and are finding their way more and more into professional, societal, and organizational discourse. But what concepts lie behind these terms? How do they relate to autism, ADHD, dyscalculia, and other neurocognitive characteristics? And to what extent can we speak of a neurodivergent spectrum? This presentation provides a sound overview of the concept of neurodivergence as well as the origins and development of the neurodiversity movement. It will explore different perspectives on neurological diversity and contextualize the significance of neurodiverse characteristics for education, the workplace, and society.
A particular focus is placed on the question of why, although people are fundamentally neurodiverse, some individuals deviate significantly from societal norms in their information processing, perception, and interaction. Furthermore, the study explores why neurodivergent traits and diagnoses such as autism or ADHD often occur alongside other characteristics.
